About
The Hiraethog Field sports Group
There is no direct English Translation for the beautiful Welsh word Hiraethog, it evokes ideas of a love for your home and a deep connection to the land, It encompasses a sense of melancholy and wistfulness for a past that can't be recaptured. This goes some way to describing how we feel about this beautiful region that uses the term as its name, and traditional country pursuits.
We are a group for those who share a love for the British countryside, its conservation and putting food on the table through field sports. We focus on the training and working of Hunt, Point, Retrieve dogs, and work together to train and provide working opportunities for our members.
Its impossible to spend time outdoors with our dogs without developing a deep connection to the landscape we work in. As such our members work with local shoots and landowners to promote conservation and boost local biodiversity.
If you would like to get involved please drop us a line via the contact tab, we are always delighted to hear from experienced handlers, shots and anglers or folk that are starting out on their journey. If you're thinking of getting your first dog and would just like to come along to a session and chat with like minded folk we would love that as well. We are an inclusive club with all ages and walks of life - we even let Labs come to sessions!
We'd also like to hear from anybody interested in conservation volunteering that could help in a variety of ways to promote biodiversity on our patches! From arborists to ecologists, traditional hedge layers to bird ringers we'd love to work with you!
