The Full Story

Conservation

The Upland ecosystems of the United Kingdom are of global significance, with many keystone species listed in the red category.  The public narrative has often seen conservation NGO's pitted against land owners, farmers and game keepers.  We believe that the answer is to remove these barriers and develop a team around the ecosystem approach that values healthy diverse ecosystems, economic stability and the cultural value these landscapes and pursuits have to our national identity.  We want to hear and see curlew, golden plover, hen harriers, common lizards and sundew long into the future!

Practical work

We work with land owners and sporting lease holders to help survey biodiversity and establish baseline, these surveys can then be used to establish management targets and key performance indicators.  Regular surveying can then demonstrate biodiversity net gain.

Our approach fuses modern ecology with traditional skills, from counting with pointers, to surveying with thermal imaging and binoculars!

Benefit for all

Healthy ecosystems not only benefit red list species but also wild game birds.  When a surplus of the species can be identified shooting can then generate the funds that allow the land to managed all year round.  Providing jobs for local people and bringing significant sums into rural economies.  The original circular economy!
